A Little Bit About Us...

Staff Biographies:

Here are some of the people you might meet at the store:

Brian is one of the owners and a long-time customer before that. Brian was the instigator in saving the bookstore from closure early in 2013. His literary interests include science books, mysteries and thrillers.

George, a co-owner, is usually in the background giving business advice.

Stephanie joined us in October 2013.  Shehas previously worked at Nicholas Hoare's in Ottawa and Ivy Books in Victoria, B.C.

Bridget joined our staff in 2011 after a 35 year career in the book business, primarily as an independent publisher’s sales and marketing representative in Ottawa.  As a long-time burghite, this is her dream semi-retirement job, walking to work with her dog Dickon, helping and getting to know her neighbours, and feeding her reading habit for mysteries, fiction, biography and children’s books.

Antoinette, a retired senior Public servant, enjoys a variety of classic and contemporary fiction, social issues and biographies. She has traveled extensively and now enjoys walking her dog, Tika, and volunteering at local theatres, the Shepherds of Good Hope and her church.  Antoinette is now running the second Books on Beechwood book club.

Jill worked as an English teacher and administrator at Trafalgar School for Girls in Montreal until her retirement in 2004. Jill has been working at Books on Beechwood for the last seven years. Six years ago Jill started a book club for the bookstore with nine members. Today, the book club boasts a large membership and has recently spun off into a second book club.  When Jill is not at Books on Beechwood, she enjoys traveling, reading and walking her mini-bernedoodle, Tilly.

David shows up early in the morning, which is totally unnatural for him, to coerce and cajole our computers into behaving for the rest of the day. When he’s not at the bookstore he enjoys reading science fiction, taking his family out canoe camping, and getting computers to work the way he wants them to.

Hilary started working at Books on Beechwood in 2008 after graduating from the University of King’s College in Halifax with a BAH in History and English. Reading is one of her favourite pastimes and there’s never a day that goes by when she doesn’t have at least one book on the go. The genres she likes reading the most are historical fiction, fantasy, and young adult books.

Di has been involved with bookselling for almost 20 years. Her specialty is children’s books, an interest she pursued working 5 years at a children’s bookstore. Her other reading interests include British fiction, biography, and detective fiction.
